Day 1: Fly to San Jose

Depart the UK and land in the busy capital for your first overnight.

Day 2: San Jose to San Gerado de Dota

Your adventure beings with a transfer to San Gerardo de Dota. Only a couple of hours away, the journey will take you past green rolling hills and fruit plantations outlining one of the country’s most beautiful regions. The rainforest here is the perfect habitat for a plethora of bird and flora species.

Day 3: San Gerardo de Dota

Today you will experience a bird watching tour and if you are lucky you might spot the amazing Resplendent Quetzal, so have your camera ready! In the afternoon you will travel to the highlands to visit fruit plantations and discover how semi-organic farms operate.

Day 4: San Gerardo de Dota to Turrialba

Enjoy the overland journey to the agriculturally rich region of Turrialba. Drive past verdant valleys and imposing volcanoes. You will also visit a local cheese farm in Santa Cruz, a unique farming town in the highlands of one of the most important volcanic ranges in the country.

Day 5: Turrialba

Today is full of truly local experiences in this little-known region. Go wildlife spotting in the morning and in the afternoon learn all about the local produce!

Day 6: Turrialba to Tortuguero

It’s an early start for the journey to Tortuguero National Park, a unique eco-system of canals and rainforests rich in flora and fauna. The boat journey to your lodge is an adventure in itself, and your first chance to spot wildlife. In the afternoon, you will have the chance to visit Tortuguero village and meet the locals living here.

Day 7: Tortuguero

Take a boat tour through the canals and enjoy the exuberance of the tropical rainforest. In the afternoon you can explore by kayak or take a walk through the many naturalist trails of your lodge.

Day 8: Tortuguero to Arenal

Travel to La Fortuna, the gateway town to one of the country’s most iconic natural sights. Arenal Volcano has a beautiful conical shape and although currently dormant, it is still a major highlight of any Costa Rica holiday. Enjoy stunning views of its perfectly symmetrical cone from the comfort of your hotel!

Day 9: Arenal

Enjoy a late start to the day with a morning and early afternoon at leisure. Later on make the most of Costa Rican nature on a night walk to discover some of the country’s nocturnal wonders. After the tour, a delicious typical dinner will be prepared on a wood burning stove.

Day 10: Arenal – Make Your Day Individual

Choose from one of the following included experiences:

Natural World Experience:  Arenal Volcano Park Arenal Volcano National Park is undoubtedly one of the most visited in Costa Rica. Today you will walk along some of its numerous trails to come as close as possible to the volcano, a true wonder of the natural world!

Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges – Located at 600 metres above sea level, this park is 250 hectares of mature forest and a haven of biodiversity. The treetops here provide the perfect environment for a high diversity of birds, mammals, butterflies and more. Spot the incredible wildlife from the top whilst you walk along the park’s hanging bridges.

Fortuna Waterfall Hiking – The tour begins by descending the 500-metre trail to the magnificent La Fortuna Waterfall famous for its 60-metre drop into crystal clear pools of water, where you can choose to take a swim if you wish. The surrounding scenery is truly beautiful, with lush forests and abundant wildlife.

Day 11: Arenal to San Jose

Take the breathtaking overland transfer back to the capital for one last night in Costa Rica before heading back home.

Day 12: Depart San Jose

Today you will be transferred to the international airport for your flight back to the UK.

Day 13: Arrive back in the UK

Single supplement is 20% of the total tour cost per person.
