Day 1: Fly to Tallinn, Estonia via Riga

Fly from London (regional connections available) to Tallinn. Transfer to the L’Ermitage Hotel (or similar) for a welcome drink and a 3-night stay.

Days 2-3: Tallinn

Morning walking tour of Tallinn, one of northern Europe’s best-preserved medieval towns. Founded in the early 13th century, Tallinn has been influenced by periods of Danish, German, Swedish and Russian control. Highlights include the gothic town hall and square, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and Toompea castle, seat of Estonia’s parliament. Optional afternoon visit to Rocca al Mare open-air museum. Following day at leisure.

Day 4: Castles & Pärnu • Riga, Latvia

Drive to Riga in Latvia, stopping en route at the 13th-century ruins of Sigulda castle, Turaida castle in the Gauja valley and the beachside town of Pärnu. Stay 2 nights at the Welton Hotel & Spa Riga (or similar)

Day 5: Riga

Morning tour of Riga, the Baltic’s largest and perhaps most beautiful city. The city’s extensive history has left a legacy of fine architecture, including art nouveau. Highlights include visits to the cathedral and an organ recital to hear the impressive acoustics in its Romanesque dome, the castle, St Peter’s Church and the House of Blackheads. Visit Riga Central Market and try some traditional Latvian delicacies. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 6: Rundale Palace • The Hill of Crosses • Vilnius, Lithuania

Morning journey across Latvia to Lithuania via Rundale Palace and the Hill of Crosses, a place of national pilgrimage. Continue to Vilnius and stay 2 nights at the newly opened Vilnia Hotel (or similar)

Day 7: Vilnius

Morning tour of Vilnius, including Cathedral Square, the Gate of Dawn, St Casimir’s Church, the Holy Spirit Church, the KGB museum and Gediminas Tower. Afternoon at leisure or optional visit to the picturesque 14th-century Trakai Island Castle.

Day 8: Fly to London via Riga

Morning transfer to the airport and fly to London, via Riga

L’Ermitage, Tallinn

Hotel L’Ermitage is located on the edge of Tallinn’s Old Town. The design of the hotel is contemporary and fresh, with stripped wooden floor and modern art work by local artists. All rooms at the property are bright and decorated with pastel colours. A breakfast buffet is served at the classically furnished hotel restaurant, which specialises in Estonian and international dishes. At the lobby bar, guests can relax in front of the fireplace and enjoy a wide range of drinks.

Vilnia Hotel, Vilnius

The hotel Vilnia is a brand new 4-star hotel in the heart of Vilnius’ Unesco listed old town. It is a boutique-style hotel in a historic building that once housed Lithuania’s first independent newspaper. Rooms, which vary in size, are fresh, modern and well equipped, and the restaurant offers Lithuanian and European cuisine.
