Morning and afternoon game drives in search of any wildlife that may have eluded you thus far.

Day 5: The Great Rift Valley

Drive south-west into the Great Rift Valley to Lake Elmenteita, arriving in time for lunch. The tectonic and volcanic nature of this region makes its landscapes quite different from those elsewhere in Kenya and the wildlife is also distinctive. Here, among the alkaline lakes, it is birds that rule the roost. In the Soysambu Conservancy, where you will have an afternoon wildlife drive, 450 bird species are resident, including 28% of the world’s population of lesser flamingos. Over 50 species of mammal also exist here, such as the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe and cheeky colobus monkey. Stay overnight at Serena Lake Elmenteita Tented Camp.

Day 6: Masai Mara

Continue south-west to the Masai Mara, one of Earth’s true wildlife wonderlands, boasting incredible numbers of classic safari creatures throughout the year. You will arrive at the Mara Serena Lodge, your home for the next 2 nights, in time for lunch, before heading out for an afternoon drive through the reserve.

Day 7: Masai Mara

Spend another day in this wildlife hot spot, soaking up the surroundings and spotting countless species on morning and afternoon game drives.

Day 8: Nairobi

After breakfast, return to Nairobi for an afternoon at leisure or take optional excursions such as a visit to Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage (from £90) or an Out of Africa tour visiting the Karen Blixen Museum (from £85). Overnight at the Nairobi Serena Hotel.
