Les Gets is a charming, traditional French village full of character and just one hour from Geneva, with sumptuous views of Mont Blanc. It is unspoiled and uncrowded, thanks to its excellent lift system, and is proud of its environmentally friendly credentials, from solar-paneled lifts to artificial snow with no chemical additives and pisting machines powered by bio-degradable fuel. It is equally proud of its Famille Plus Montagne accreditation, so the needs of younger guests have been carefully considered.
The award-winning ski schools and excellent nursery slopes mean that beginners are assured a fantastic week, but intermediates and advanced skiers will not be disappointed. There are two ski areas, one on either side of the resort – Les Chavannes, gateway to Morzine and the Portes du Soleil, and Mont Chéry, where locals and experienced skiers head for the challenging black and red runs, not to mention some spectacular off-piste skiing. Mont Chéry is also home to a snow park with kickers, a spine, rails, boxes, a boardercross and a large airbag.
Les Gets is also one of the key French and Swiss resorts that make up the famed Portes du Soleil - along with Morzine, Avoriaz, and Châtel - creating over 650 km of glorious pistes served by over 200 lifts and one of the largest ski areas in the world. Due to the vast size of this ski domain, there is considerably less time spent waiting for lifts than in other resorts.
There are warm and cosy restaurants in the heart of the resort, together with a great selection of bars – many with regular live music, a cinema, bowling alley, ice skating and a spa. For something a little more unusual or even surreal, why not pay a visit to the Mechanical Music Museum, an exhibition of around 750 mechanical instruments such as mechanical violins and pneumatic pianos, all in working order.
Les Gets itself is a small traditional, village, with cosy chalet-style restaurants and accommodation. The resort is very family orientated with not much nightlife but it is well linked to larger resorts, such as Avoriaz.
