Slovakia, formerly a part of Czechoslovakia, is situated right in the middle of Europe. Filled with medieval cities, ice caves, castles and mountains, Slovakia has a gothic charm that attracts visitors from all over the world to hike its dark forests. Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia has an excellent nightlife and the familiar red brick roofs that blanket Prague. The old castle presides, from above, over the old town of Bratislava. The Danube river runs through the town offering river cruises, the perfect chance to watch Slovakia melt into Austrian landscapes.

Besides Bratislava, Slovakia offers many gingerbread-style villages embedded in the forests; a reminder of Slovakia’s history, folkloric traditions and rural past. The best places to visit in Slovakia are Bratislava for its eclectic mix of modern and medieval, the High Tatras, the highest mountain range in the Carpathian mountains, lush green pine forests with snaking rivers, Slovensky Raj National Park, for a stunning hike through the forests and visits to the streams and waterfalls and Spis Castle, that sprawls a hilltop above SpiÅ¡ské Podhradie village.
