Sicily Holidays 2023/24

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean, just off the ‘toe’ of Italy’s ‘boot’ (1.5 miles away, to be exact), with over 1,000km of coastline. This sparkling jewel in the Med is the perfect setting for a summer holiday for water sports enthusiasts, ideal for sailing, windsurfing, kayaking or even kite-surfing. You may want to sign up for that Scuba-diving course that you’ve always fancied doing. The pristine, golden sand beaches offer spectacular sunrises and sunsets, crystal clear waters and beautiful bays, one of which – Isola dei Conigli – has been described by TripAdvisor as the most beautiful beach in the world.  There’s an incredible choice of treks that can be done on foot or by bike, with stunning views at every turn. Choose from mountainous scenery, the dazzling coastline or the lush interior for an exhilarating adventure that you’ll never forget.

Sicily is home to several UNESCO World Heritage sites, including a well-preserved Ancient Greek city and a Roman villa with exceptional mosaics. The most well-known sites, however, must be Mount Etna – the tallest volcano in Europe – and Stromboli in the Aeolian Islands, with both still giving regular reminders of the awesome power of nature. It’s possible to trek to the mouth of their craters, but only with a professional guide. And at the foot of Mount Etna you will find Etnaland, a theme park which also includes an Aquapark with enough water slides and thrilling attractions to keep children – young and young at heart! – occupied all day.

Lovers of Italian food will revel in the wide range of delicacies peculiar to Sicily, such as rice pancakes, Pasta alla Norma – a delicious pasta dish flavoured with tomatoes, aubergines, ricotta cheese and basil, panelle – savoury fritters made with chickpea flour, and Sicilian pignolata. And all washed down with wines of incredible quality, be it white, red, rosé, dessert or sparkling, it’s no wonder that Sicily is a one-stop shop for gastronomes!
