Day 1 – Arrival in Glasgow
Check in at the hotel and enjoy time at leisure before the guide's group briefing and the welcome dinner.
Day 2 – Traditions of Glasgow
Begin your introduction to this historic city with a visit to one of its most significant landmarks: the wonderful Glasgow Cathedral - the oldest cathedral in mainland Scotland. Stop for lunch before continuing to the National Piping Centre, where you'll enjoy a bagpipe experience and tour of the piping centre before an opportunity to try the bagpipes for yourself! Afterwards, enjoy free time to explore the Christmas markets at George Square and Enoch Square before dinner.
Day 3 – Loch Lomond, Loch Tay & Dunkeld
Travel north into the Trossachs, where you will enjoy an hour's scenic cruising on Loch Lomond, Scotland's deepest loch. Continue to Loch Tay, where you'll enjoy a two-course lunch at a restaurant overlooking the waters, before a final short drive to Dunkeld House Hotel, a stately country mansion and our home for the next two nights.
Day 4 – Taste of the Highlands – Chocolate and Whiskey
Continue to the Aberfeldy Distillery to learn about the fine heritage of Dewar's whisky, dating back to 1846. Explore the heritage exhibition and distillery rooms before sitting down to a whisky and chocolate tasting tray of three fine Scotch whiskies, each expertly matched with an artisan dark chocolate. En route back to the hotel, we'll also stop to visit the charming Highland Chocolatier shop and artistic chocolate gallery.
Day 5 – Private opening of the Royal Yacht Britannia & overnight stay on Fingal
Enjoy time at leisure this morning to relax or explore the hotel's enormous grounds. Around noon, we depart for Leith Docks, where we visit two very special ships: the Royal Yacht Britannia and her sister ship, the Fingal, a luxurious floating hotel. Begin with champagne afternoon tea on the Fingal before checking in to your cabin for an overnight stay. This evening, we are privileged to enjoy a private, out-of-hours opening of the Royal Yacht Britannia, exclusively for our group.
Day 6 – Edinburgh Castle and The Nutcracker (Christmas Eve)
It's Christmas Eve! Disembark the Fingal this morning and drive 30 minutes into the atmospheric city of Edinburgh. Our first stop is the impressive Edinburgh Castle, where we explore highlights like the Great Hall and the Honours (crown jewels) of Scotland. Enjoy lunch before continuing to the lovely Festival Theatre to enjoy a two-hour performance of the festive classic ballet, the Nutcracker, performed by Scottish Ballet and accompanied by a live orchestra. We have secured excellent seats for you to enjoy this lavish production. Afterwards, check in to the Intercontinental Edinburgh the George and enjoy a few hours at leisure before dinner.
Day 7 – Christmas Day at the intercontinental
Wrap up warm and head out to enjoy a crisp Christmas morning walk along the Royal Mile on one of its few quiet days of the year. The lack of crowds will make this a lovely day to see the Royal Mile and appreciate its architecture and landmarks such as St Giles' Cathedral. Return to the George for a delicious Christmas lunch, including a specially arranged glass of bubbly and half bottle of wine (per guest) to celebrate Christmas together. The afternoon is at leisure to play games, call loved ones, or perhaps enjoy the Queen's Speech.
Day 8 – Christmas at the Botanics Light Trail (Boxing Day)
Boxing Day morning will be at leisure. Late this afternoon, transfer to Edinburgh's Royal Botanic Garden to enjoy the lovely light trail here. During the winter period, the centre and exteriors are lit up in an incredible field of lights, lending the glasshouses and gardens a festive air. Enjoy some time to explore and admire the illuminations before returning to the hotel for your farewell dinner.
Day 9 – Departure from Edinburgh
