Day 1: Edinburgh - St Andrews - Ballater
Old seafaring villages, mysterious ruins and a royal love story will welcome us to Scotland. We’ll begin by travelling past towering mountains and East Neuk fishing villages before arriving in St Andrews, a tiny town with a big reputation for world-class golf.
Day 2: Ballater - Cairngorms National Park - Culloden - Inverness
Our day will begin in dramatic fashion as we travel through the awe-inspiring scenery of Cairngorms National Park on the way to the historic tombs of Clava Cairns. After exploring the Visitor Centre at the Culloden Battlefield, our final stop of the day will be Inverness, the heart of the Highlands.
Day 3: Inverness
This morning, we’ll embark on a walking tour of Inverness. Then, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy.
Day 4: Inverness - Loch Ness - Plockton - Isle of Skye
First today: a short stop at Loch Ness. Our pre-lunch entertainment will come in the form of a visit to Plockton, where painted cottages cluster around a little harbour. With our appetites for the outdoors whetted, we’ll sit down to a seafood lunch. Today’s final drive is to the Isle of Skye, where we’ll stay for two nights.
Day 5: Isle of Skye
Sensational landscapes, rare wildlife and imagination-firing history – the Isle of Skye delivers on every level. This is North Highland scenery on a grand scale! While here, we’ll immerse ourselves in the island’s unique geology, including the extraordinary Quiraing, Kilt Rock and Old Man of Storr.
Day 6: Isle of Skye - Fort William - Isle of Mull
Continuing our journey through soul-stirring Scottish scenery, we’ll pass Fort William – a magnet for outdoor enthusiasts. Next, there’s a short ferry ride over to the Isle of Mull.
Day 7: Isle of Mull - Isle of Iona - Isle of Mull
The best way to see the Hebrides is by island hopping. Today, we’ll do just that. From Mull’s little village of Fionnphort, we’ll set sail to Iona, where we’ll wander to Iona Abbey and Nunnery. When we return to Mull, we’ll pop our history hats on and peek inside Duart Castle, which offers grand staterooms and empty dungeons. This craggy fortress, clinging to a coastal cliff, is the oldest inhabited castle on the island.
Day 8: Isle of Mull - Stirling - Edinburgh
Taking to the sea once again, we’ll return to the mainland. It’s been a tour that’s delved deep into Scotland’s heritage, so it’s only right that we finish with a stop in Stirling. A drive through the Old Town will bring us to the magnificent hilltop castle. As one of Scotland’s most impressive and important monuments, it’s the perfect way to round off our tour before we make our way back to Edinburgh.
