Tour Itinerary

Day 1 – To Moscow

Morning flight from London Heathrow to Moscow with British Airways. Transfer to the Intercontinental Tverskaya (or similar) for 3 nights 

Day 2 – Moscow

Morning tour of Moscow. Explore the renowned Red Square with St Basil's Cathedral, GUM state department store, Moscow State University, Novodevichy Convent, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour and Gorky Park. Afternoon at leisure. Meals Included: Breakfast. 

Day 3 – Moscow

Full day at leisure or optional morning visit to Sergiev Posad. Built around the Trinity Monastery of St Sergius, it is one of Russia's most important religious and historical landmarks. Afternoon optional tour to the Tretyakov Gallery. Meals Included: Breakfast. 

Day 4 – To St Petersburg

Morning visit to the Kremlin, including Cathedral Square and the Armoury Museum, with its collection of Imperial treasures and Faberge eggs. Take a late afternoon train to St Petersburg (4 hours). On arrival, transfer to the Taleon Imperial Hotel for 4 nights Meals Included: Breakfast. 

Day 5 – St Petersburg

Morning tour of St Petersburg, including Nevsky Prospekt and Vasilevsky Island, and the entrances to the Church of Our Saviour on Spilled Blood and the Peter and Paul Fortress. Afternoon at leisure to visit St Isaac's Cathedral. Meals Included: Breakfast. 

Day 6 – St Petersburg

Tour of the Hermitage. One of the largest and oldest museums in the world, it has an unrivalled collection of European masterpieces. Meals Included: Breakfast. 

Day 7 – St Petersburg

Morning tour of Catherine's Palace at Pushkin, including the Amber Room. Afternoon visit to Peterhof to view the exterior of Peter the Great's Summer Palace and gardens. Meals Included: Breakfast. 

Day 8 – To London

Morning at leisure or optional visit to the Yusupov Palace and its Rasputin exhibition. Afternoon transfer to the airport and fly to London. Meals Included: Breakfast. 


The Hotel National, Moscow

Le Royal Meridien National was built in 1903 by famous Russian architect Alexander Ivanov, and stands in the heart of Moscow overlooking the walls of the Kremlin. Red Square, St. Basil's Cathedral, and the Bolshoi Theatre are all within five minutes walk. The hotels eclectic Russian interior includes chandeliers, antiques and frescoed ceilings which survived the revolution and have been carefully restored. The 221 rooms, including 37 suites, are traditionally furnished with antiques and art. Its award winning Moskovsky Restaurant offers a range of Russian and European cuisine and has panoramic windows overlooking the Kremlin. 

The Taleon Imperial, St Petersburg

Housed in a Tsarist-era palace, The Taleon Imperial has an ideal location in the heart of St Petersburg on Nevsky Prospekt. The world-renowned Hermitage museum is only a few minutes' walk away and the area surrounding the hotel has many shops and restaurants. There are 89 guestrooms ranging from Superior to Premium suites. As this is a character property, the individual room styles and sizes will vary.

Extend your stay in St Petersburg to visit one of the many other museums and palaces, or re-visit the Hermitage Museum to view more of its extensive collection.

2 Nights 
This pre-tour extension provides the opportunity to explore Russia's capital city in more depth. Optional excursions include visits to the fine art museums of Pushkin and Tretyakov, the Arbat shopping district and Tolstoy Museum.

Day 1: To Moscow
Morning flight from London Heathrow to Moscow with British Airways. Transfer to the Hotel Lotte Moscow for 5 nights. (N)
Day 2: Moscow
Full day at leisure or take optional excursions to explore the city in more depth (payable in advance). This is an excellent opportunity to experience Moscow's remarkable metro system. Built during Stalin's era, the stations feature avant-garde design, monumental sculpture and realist art, all illustrating the ideals of the Soviet State. (B)
Day 3: Moscow
Morning at leisure. In the afternoon the remainder of the group will arrive. (B)

St Petersburg literary
1 Nights 
The beauty of St Petersburg has enchanted some of Russia's most prominent authors and poets and inspired countless works of fiction. This extension offers a glimpse into the lives of these writers, their works and where they were finally laid to rest.

Day 8: St Petersburg
Morning tour of the Dostoevsky House Museum. Dostoevsky's final home, this is where he wrote his last masterpiece, The Brothers Karamazov. Afternoon visit to Pushkin House, where Pushkin spent most of his adult life and where he eventually died after an ill-fated duel. The house has been preserved almost exactly as it was. Visit the poet's library, which houses over 4,500 of his books. (B)
Day 9: To London
Morning tour of Alexander Nevsky monastery. Founded in 1710, the monastery is a burial site for many of Russia's leading composers, writers and politicians. The ornate graves of luminary figures such as Dostoevsky, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky and Rimsky-Korsakov can be found within the cemeteries. Afternoon transfer to the airport and fly to London Heathrow with British Airways. (B)

Moscow literary
2 Nights 
This extension offers an insight into the lives of some of Russia's most influential writers. Visit the homes, apartments and estates of Leo Tolstoy and Anton Chekhov, looking out for inspirations that might have contributed to the writing of some of the most successful and controversial novels of their time.

Day 1: To Moscow
Morning flight from London Heathrow to Moscow with British Airways. Transfer to the Hotel Lotte Moscow for 5 nights. (N)
Day 2: Moscow
Morning visit to Yasnaya Polyana, the former home of Leo Tolstoy who wrote such classics as War and Peace and Anne Karenina. The estate is now a museum and includes the writer's mansion, kept as it was when he died in 1910, the orchards and his grave. (B)
Day 3: Moscow
Morning visit to the small country estate of Melikhovo, which was Chekhov's home for five years and where he wrote The Seagull, one of his most significant plays. This evening, the remainder of the group will arrive. (B)

2 Nights 
Often seen as a pivotal moment in the German invasion of Russia, the battle of Stalingrad was one of the bloodiest campaigns in modern-day history. This 3-day extension visits the city of Volgograd, formerly named Stalingrad but renamed in 1961 following Stalin's death.

Day 1: To Moscow
Morning flight from London Heathrow to Volgograd with British Airways and Siberia Airlines. Transfer to the Hotel Intourist for 2 nights. (N)
Day 2: Volgograd
Morning city tour of Volgograd including the Red Tractor Factory, followed by a visit to the Mamayev Kurgan war memorial. This statue of Mother Russia was erected on a hill overlooking the city which saw some of the fiercest fighting. Afternoon at leisure to further explore the city. (B)
Day 3: To Moscow
Morning transfer to the airport and fly to Moscow. Transfer to the Hotel Lotte Moscow for 3 nights. This evening, the remainder of the group will arrive. (B)
