Continue your journey by train into Italy today, travelling to Milan, then continuing on to Rome for three nights at the 4* Hotel President.

Day 3: Sightseeing in Rome

Enjoy a half-day’s sightseeing in the Eternal City today, starting with a guided tour which takes you to some of the many fantastic sights and monuments of this remarkable capital. See the iconic Roman Forum and the remarkable Pantheon and make a wish by throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain. Your afternoon is free to continue exploring.

Day 4: At leisure in Rome

With all of today at leisure for you to absorb the history and culture of this vibrant city, there are a number of attractions you won’t want to miss. Take a walk up the Spanish Steps, see the sight of many infamous gladiatorial battles at the mighty Colosseum, take in some of the most revered artworks in the world by the likes of Da Vinci, Caravaggio, Titian, Raphael and Michelangelo as you tour world famous galleries and museums, or explore the country within a country with a visit to Vatican City – home to St Peter’s Basilica.

Day 5: To Sorrento

Say goodbye to Rome today as you transfer to the railway station and board the high-speed service to Naples. Here a private coach will connect you to the seaside town of Sorrento which sits within its own ‘mini bay’ in the vast Bay of Naples. Check into your hotel for the next five nights, the 4* Hotel Michelangelo.

Day 6: The Amalfi Coast

Today’s excursion takes you by boat along the stunning Amalfi Coast – famous as one of the world’s most picturesque coastlines. Our port of call is the small, but perfectly formed, town of Amalfi – one of the many desirable destinations along this stretch of rugged shoreline. Italy’s Amalfi Coast and its islands make up one of the most visually stunning regions in the whole of Europe, where roads twist and turn along the cliff tops and through exquisite villages on the hillsides.

Day 7: Exploring Sorrento

Today you are free to discover the joys of Sorrento. You may want to head down the beach and relax as you listen to the waves break against the rocks, or explore the historic centre, with its narrow streets lined with interesting shops selling the local products such as Limoncello, the famous drink made from lemons. One good way to see the highlights of this relaxed, Italian town is to take a ride on the City Train, a little train that travels from Piazza Tasso to various attractions throughout the city.

Days 8-9: Pompeii and at Leisure

This morning take the local Circumvesuviana train service to the ancient ruins of Pompeii. Regarded as the best-preserved Roman city in the world having spent the best part of two millennia buried by volcanic ash. This ash however did preserve the site, freezing it in time so that visitors can experience what life was like for the people of Pompeii before one of the most catastrophic and infamous eruptions in European history.
