This voyage takes you from Halifax in Canada to Reykjavik in Iceland. Along the way, you will visit Labrador and Newfoundland, the stunning maritime region of Canada. On this expedition, you will experience the true taste of Canadian wilderness, historical settlements, fishing villages and the natural beauty of Canada's coast. From Canada, you will visit Iceland and its folkloric, mythical landscapes, culture and ancient traditions. You will visit a range of Iceland's best regions, seeing settlements, cities, towns and icebergs. You will learn about the violent whaling history of the regions, visit the beautiful, Red Bay, and learn about the remains from the 1000-year-old Viking settlement in L’Anse aux Meadows.

Hurtigruten From the Wilderness of Newfoundland and Labrador to the Magic of Iceland Itinerary

Day 1: Halifax

You embark on the ship at Halifax.

Day 2: Louisbourg

Sailing along the eastern shores of Nova Scotia, you head for the large island of Cape Breton. Then you reach Louisbourg. 

Day 3: Îles de la Madeleine

You dock in Cap-aux-Melules, you can go ashore and discover the land, visit the town or opt-in for an activity such as kayaking or enjoy a hike.

Day 4: Bonne Bay

Gros Morne National Park is a combination of protected areas and small coastal communities. Look out for amazing wildlife including Moose, caribou, fox, black bears, ptarmigans, and eagles.

Day 5: Red Bay

Disembark and walk along the Bone Shore Trail. Take a hike along the beach and take a kayak trip to Saddle Island Trail where you can see the remnants of the ovens where whale blubber was rendered into oil and the graves of some 130 men who died here. 

Day 6: St. Anthony

Look out for more wildlife including; the black bear, coyote, wolf, snowshoe hare and Arctic hare. 

Day 7: Battle Harbour

You may see wildlife here such as; whales, dolphins, seabirds and Arctic foxes You will also see icebergs and the beautiful island scenery on one of the hikes or boat tours.

Days 8-11: At sea

These days at sea will be filled with lectures. 

Day 12: Ísafjörður

The optional excursions offer a variety of experiences from hikes to tastings of local food.

Day 13: Stykkíshólmur

Snæfellsjökull National Park with its mysterious Snæfellsjökull glacier is a must see. 

Day 14: Reykjavik

If you have some time, explore mythical Iceland before you fly home.
