Day 1: Fly to Mandalay via Bangkok
Fly from London (regional connections available) to Mandalay via Bangkok with Thai Airways.
Day 2: Mandalay
Arrive in Mandalay and transfer to Mandalay Hill Resort for 2 nights, with a visit to the Mahamuni pagoda and the U Bein Bridge at sunset. Welcome dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: Mandalay
Morning tour of Mandalay Palace and its extensive grounds, followed by a visit to the Sakyadhita Thilashin nunnery school. Continue to Ma Ma Guesthouse for a lesson in Burmese cooking.
Day 4: Fly to Nyaung U • Pagan
Visit the ancient royal capitals of Inwa (Ava) and Sagaing, and discover pagodas, craft villages and markets. Fly to Nyaung U then transfer to the Aye Yar River View Resort for 2 nights in Pagan (Bagan). Dinner tonight is accompanied by a traditional puppet show.
Day 5: Pagan
Optional sunrise balloon ride over Pagan (October to March only; must be booked in advance). Full-day tour of Pagan including the Shwezigon pagoda and Lawkananda and Dhammayazika temples. Late afternoon cruise on a private boat to enjoy the sunset and a refreshing cocktail.
Day 6: Fly to Heho • Inle lake
Morning flight to Heho and transfer to Inle lake. Take a cruise on the lake and see floating gardens, the Phaung Daw Oo pagoda and a monastery. Stay 2 nights at the Amata Garden Resort.
Day 7: Inle Lake
Full-day tour of Inle lake including visits to a morning market and the village of Indein, home to the Indein pagoda complex that consists of hundreds of small stupas.
Day 8: Fly to Rangoon
Morning flight to Rangoon (Yangon). Transfer to the city via the Kalaywatawya monastery and a stop outside the stateswoman Aung San Suu Kyi’s gated home and the reclining Buddha statue. Stay 2 nights at the Chatrium Hotel.
Day 9: Rangoon
Morning visit to the Shwedagon pagoda, followed by a walking tour of the city including visits to Sule pagoda, Theingyi Zei market and the National Museum. Farewell dinner.
Day 10: Fly to London via Bangkok
Optional morning visit to the Bogyoke Aung San (Scott) market, a good place to buy souvenirs. Fly back to London via Bangkok.
Day 11: London
Arrive back in London.
