Days 1-2: UK – Beijing
Fly overnight to Beijing, China's capital City, where you will be met at Beijing Airport in the arrivals hall by your Local Guide and/or National Escort from Wendy Wu Tours. You will then transfer to your hotel for a tour introduction held later that day or the following morning.
Day 3: Beijing
Sightseeing today includes a stroll through Tiananmen Square, past Chairman Mao's Mausoleum to the treasure-filled Forbidden City, which has the largest and best-preserved collection of ancient buildings in China. We also take a rickshaw ride through the traditional Hutong areas. Our evening meal includes the local delicacy, Peking Duck.
Days 4-5: Beijing
Walk on the Great Wall to reflect on 2,000 years of history and then visit the unique Temple of Heaven. After your group has been given an introduction to the Great Wall's unique history you will have free time to explore the rest at your own pace.
The next day, indulge in some shopping at the bustling silk markets. There is easy sightseeing this afternoon, which involves a rickshaw ride through the Hutong district of Beijing. Later, drive approx 1.5 hrs to the Summer Palace in the North of the city. The palace is set over an extensive park and man-made lake complex. Enjoy a fascinating Chinese Acrobatic show in the evening.
Day 6: Beijing – Xian
Transfer (1 hr drive) to the airport and Fly to the former ancient capital of Xian and visit the Shaanxi Museum which is home to thousands of priceless relics. Transfer to the hotel and check-in. In the evening we will enjoy a traditional Shui Jiao dumpling meal followed by a performance of Tang Dynasty dancing.
Day 7: Xian
Visit one of the most important archÅological discoveries of the 20th Century – the Terracotta Warriors. Within the Museum area, the warriors can be seen in 3 different “pits”, which are active archÅological digs. The Terracotta Warrior experience is followed by a walk along the Ancient City Wall. The Local Guide will give you time to explore at your own pace. There are options here to hire a bicycle or an electric cart to drive along the length of the walls. These are offered by private vendors and can be organised at your own cost. We also stroll through the lively Muslin Quarter, past the Great Mosque to explore the Islamic food markets.
Day 8: Xian – Yichang - Yangtze River Cruise
Visit the Little Wild Goose Pagoda before flying to Wuhan and transferring by coach to Yichang (approx 4.5 hours) to board our Yangtze River Cruise vessel for the next four nights.
Days 9-11: Yangtze River Cruise
Cruise through the Xiling Gorge, Wu Gorge and Qutang Gorge, enjoying the Three Gorges Dam before cruising upstream through some of the most dramatic scenery in the world. Over these three days, you will take a side-trip to the striking Shennong Stream in a pea-pod boat or visit the Lesser Three Gorges and enjoy various shore excursions along the way.
Day 12: Chongqing – Chengdu
Disembark from our cruise vessel this morning and transfer to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. The area is renowned for its lush landscapes and cuisine. Enjoy a delicious Sichuan meal in the evening.
Day 13: Chengdu
Visit the famous Panda Reserve to see these adorable animals being reared in wooded surroundings reminiscent of their natural habitat.
Day 14: Fly to Guilin
Discover the colourful stalagmites and stalactites of Reed Flute Cave.
Days 15-16: Li River Cruise – Guilin
Cruise the stunning Li River and enjoy the breathtaking landscape of beautiful limestone hills, tranquil fishing scenes and picturesque villages. The cruise itself will be scenic and relaxing as the boats cruise past unspoilt countryside. We continue downstream to the town of Yangshuo set in the lush green rice paddies of Southern China.
The next day, explore the colourful local markets, walk along the cobblestone streets and soak in the atmosphere of this charming town before returning to Guilin to visit the colourful Reed Flute Caves. We also see the cormorant fishermen.
Day 17: Guilin
Return to Guilin and take a tour of the South China Pearl Museum.
Day 18: Travel to Shanghai
Today fly to the exuberant city of Shanghai. On arrival wander through the Xintiandi area to admire the 1920s architectural styling.
Day 19: Suzhou
Today travel to Suzhou. Suzhou is renowned for its gardens – visit one of the finest, the Humble Administrator’s Garden.
Days 20-21: Shanghai
Sightseeing today includes a stroll through the beautiful Yu Gardens and the Old Town as well as a visit to the Shanghai Museum. We also walk along the famous Bund with its colonial architecture.
The next day, visit the modern Pudong area and explore the restored Xintiandi area with its unique 1920's style shikumen buildings. In the evening, enjoy a cruise on the panoramic Huangpu River.
Day 22: Shanghai – UK

Planes: Internal flights are based on economy class, with reputable airlines.
Cruise ships: On this tour you will take a 4-night cruise up the Yangtze River. Your cabin on your Yangtze River cruise ship will have a private bathroom and balcony. Please note that the cruise ship and all shore excursions arranged by the cruise are on a shared basis.
