Wendy Wu Cities of the Orient Itinerary:
Days 1-2: UK to Shanghai
You will be met at Pudong Airport by your Local Guide and/or National Escort from Wendy Wu Tours. You will transfer to your hotel where a tour introduction will be held that night or the following morning. This is an opportunity for your to meet your group and learn more about travelling in China.
Day 3: Shanghai
Sightseeing today involves a full day of touring around the centre of Shanghai.
Day 4: Shanghai to Beijing
Enjoy morning sightseeing, before boarding your flight to Beijing and your hotel check-in.
Day 5: Beijing
Sightseeing in central Beijing includes Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, followed by a visit to the Temple of Heaven, and if time permits, you will have time at leisure to visit the markets.
Day 6: Beijing
An early rise this morning to drive to the Juyongguan Pass section of the Great Wall, hopefully avoiding the crowds of tourists who will arrive later in the morning. After your group has been given an introduction to the Great Wall's unique history you will have free time to explore the rest at your own pace.
In the afternoon, you will drive to the Summer Palace. The palace is set over an extensive park and man-made lake complex.
Day 7: Beijing to Xian
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Xian & visit the Shaanxi Provincial Museum before checking into your hotel. After morning sightseeing you will return to your hotel to rest and freshen up.
Day 8: Xian
The Museum of the Terracotta Warriors and Horses is located outside Xian. Within the museum area, the warriors can be seen in 3 different ‘pits', which are active archÅological digs. This afternoon you will visit the City Wall at your own pace. There are options here to hire a bicycle or an electric cart to drive along the length of the wall, at your own expense.
Day 9: Xian to Wuhan – Yangtze River Cruise
After a morning flight from Xian to Wuhan, you will transfer through the countryside to the docks near Yichang, where you will board your ship and check into your cabin for the next four nights.
Day 10: Yangtze River Cruise
Shore excursion to the site of the Three Gorges Dam. Your coach will pass through the surrounding areas and stop at a viewing area above the ship locks. There is a small museum and a sightseeing lookout. You will then cruise through the Xiling Gorge.
Day 11: Yangtze River Cruise
Cruise through the Wu Gorge with a shore excursion to the Goddess Stream or Shennong Stream. Many protected species make the stunning peaks their home, including monkeys, mountain goats, deer and wild boar.
Day 12: Yangtze River Cruise
Cruise through the Qutang Gorge. Today you will visit either Shibaozhai Temple on the south bank or Fengdu on the north bank. There is a shore excursion to Shibaozhai Temple: this temple was built at the top of a nine-storey pavilion clinging to the sheer south bank near Qutang Gorge.
Shore excursion to Fengdu ‘Ghost City'. Fengdu was relocated across to the south bank during the Three Gorges Dam Project. The Fengdu ‘Ghost City' Temple lies on the steep hill above the demolished town.
Day 13: Chongqing to Guilin
Visit Chongqing Zoo's new Panda House. You will then be transferred to the airport for your flight to Guilin and check into your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 14: Guilin to Yangshuo
You will take a 3-hour leisurely cruise from Guilin to the small town of Yangshuo. A simple meal will be served on board (usually before midday at ‘Chinese lunchtime').
Day 15: Yangshuo
Spend the morning touring around Yangshuo's beautiful countryside. The afternoon is at leisure and there are many activities available (arranged locally and at extra cost) including cycling, rafting and walking or you may choose to relax in the town. In the evening, you will have the opportunity to see cormorant fishermen.
Day 16: Guilin – Hong Kong
On your journey back to Guilin, visit the Reed Flute Caves before your transfer to the airport for your flight to Hong Kong.
Day 17: Hong Kong
Touring today around Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. (Breakfast only included)
Day 18: Hong Kong
Enjoy sightseeing on Lantau Island and enjoy an evening dinner at the top of Victoria Peak as your farewell celebration. (Breakfast and dinner only included)
Day 19: Depart Hong Kong
Touring is included in the morning on the final day in Hong Kong before being transferred from your hotel to the airport, according to the departure time of your international flight. (Breakfast only included)
