Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Port Elizabeth via Johannesburg

Fly overnight from London (regional connections available) to Port Elizabeth via Johannesburg with British Airways. 

Day 2: Port Elizabeth

Arrive into Port Elizabeth and transfer to The Kelway Hotel / The Beach Hotel (or similar) and stay 2 nights. Afternoon at leisure. Welcome dinner in the evening. 

Day 3: Amakhala Game Reserve

Drive to Amakhala Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape for a morning wildlife drive followed by a delicious lunch at Hlosi Game Lodge. Return to Port Elizabeth. Remainder of the day at leisure. 

Day 4: Knysna

Drive to Knysna and stay at Protea Hotel Knysna Quays / Simola Country Estate / Premier Resort The Moorings (or similar) for 2 nights. Afternoon cruise to the Knysna Heads on The John Benn, a classic boat named after a legendary pilot. 

Day 5: Tsitsikamma National Park

Morning drive through the Tsitsikamma National Park, well known for its indigenous forests and dramatic coastline. Return to Knysna. 

Day 6: Oudtshoorn

Morning drive to Oudtshoorn – ‘the feather capital of the world’ – and visit a working ostrich farm for a guided tour. After a leisurely three-course lunch at the ostrich farm, continue to Protea Hotel Riempie Estate / Swartberg Country Manor (or similar) and overnight. Remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 7: Robertson • Stellenbosch

Early morning optional meerkat adventure, accompanied by an expert (from £55). After breakfast, take a morning guided tour of Cango caves, one of Africa’s most spectacular natural formations. Its vast caverns are adorned with beautiful and delicate stalagmites and stalactites. Continue along Route 62, a scenic route that leads through South Africa’s wine-growing region. Stop at the town of Robertson, with its Victorian buildings and jacaranda-lined streets, for a wine tasting at Van Loveren. After lunch (payable locally) drive to Stellenbosch and stay 2 nights at Protea Hotel Dorpshuis & Spa / NH The Lord Charles (in Somerset West) (or similar)*. 

Day 8: Cape Winelands

Full-day tour of the Cape Winelands. Drive through mountain ranges, vineyards and Cape Dutch homesteads. Stops include Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl (time permitting). Two wine tastings are included. 

Day 9: Cape Town

Morning guided walk in Stellenbosch and a picnic lunch in a scenic spot. Transfer to the Southern Sun Waterfront (or similar) for 3 nights.

Day 10: Cape Town

Morning orientation tour including a cable car ascent of Table Mountain (weather permitting). Afternoon at leisure for exploration of the waterfront area or take an optional excursion to Robben island (from £30) where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for three decades. 

Day 11: Cape Town

Full-day tour of the Cape Peninsula. Drive through the pretty seaside suburbs of Camps Bay and Hout Bay, where you may take an optional cruise to Seal Island. Continue to the southernmost tip of the peninsula and visit Cape Point, returning via the penguin colony at the old British naval base in Simon’s Town and Kirstenbosch botanical gardens. Farewell dinner at Gold Restaurant with a 14-course Cape Malay and African menu accompanied by a unique interactive drumming experience. 

Day 12: Fly to London

Day at leisure to explore Cape Town or take optional excursions. Evening transfer to the airport and fly to London with British Airways. 

Day 13: Arrive in London

Early morning arrival. 


Amakhala - Safari Lodge, Amakhala Game Reserve

African tribal designs have inspired the creation of Amakhala Safari Lodge, one of seven lodges situated in the Amakhala Game Reserve, adjacent to Shamwari. The lodge is owned and managed by the same families who farmed the area with sheep and cattle five generations ago.

Belvidere Manor, Knysna

Belvidere Manor is located on Knysna Lagoon, with breathtaking views of blue waters, surrounding forests and the Outeniqua Mountains beyond. It is a 10-minute drive from Knysna town centre and has the ambiance of a country estate. Tucked discreetly away at the heart of the Garden Route, it offers swimming, boating, fishing, beaches, forest walks, coastal walks and nature reserves.

Oude Werf Hotel, Stellenbosch
Situated in the heart of the winelands, within easy reach of all the attractions in the Western Cape, d' Ouwe Werf was established in 1802. The 25 individually decorated en-suite bedrooms combine traditional old Cape atmosphere with modern comfort and convenience.

Southern Sun Waterfront, Cape Town
