Days 1-2 : UK – Saigon

Fly overnight to Saigon where you will be met at Saigon Airport in the arrivals hall by your Local Guide and/or National Escort from Wendy Wu Indochina Tours. Together with all other group members who may be arriving at a similar time, you will transfer to your hotel to check-in to your rooms. There is no sightseeing today. A tour introduction will be held in the hotel later that day or the following day.

Day 3 : Saigon

Sightseeing in downtown Saigon today includes a visit to the former Presidential Palace, the War Remnants Museum, the imposing Notre Dame Cathedral and the French-style Post Office. We also visit Cholon (Chinatown), Thien Hau Pagoda and Ben Thanh Market for some shopping.

Days 4-5 : Saigon – Mekong Delta – Saigon

Travel to My Tho and enjoy a cruise on the Mekong River to explore the delta, also known as the ‘Rice Basket’ of Vietnam. Over the next two days we explore the Mekong Delta first hand travelling by various types of boats in and around Vinh Long Province. Visit floating markets, villages, home industries and plantations as well as Thoi Son Island and Vinh Trang Pagoda.

We stay overnight at a local farmer’s house where you will have time at
leisure and may like to assist the family to prepare tonight’s dinner, as well as enjoying the authentic Vietnamese hospitality and a music show.

The next day, continue sightseeing around the canals and explore the Mekong Delta before returning to Saigon. The Mekong Delta is primarily rural; however, it is the most densely populated area in Vietnam. Life here revolves around the river as people still live, trade and travel along the Mekong Delta.

The area’s rich and fertile lands are perfect for growing rice, coconuts, vegetables and tropical fruits. The Mekong Delta gives a perfect glimpse into how life once was.

Day 6 : Cu Chi Tunnels & Tay Ninh day tour

Visit the famous tunnel system in the Cu Chi district and then attend the midday service at the Cao Dai Temple, which is one of the most striking structures in Asia.

Day 7 : Saigon – Nha Trang

Fly to the coastal town of Nha Trang and enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your own leisure.

Day 8 : Nha Trang Cruising

Enjoy a cruise around the nearby islands and visit the Tri Nguyen Aquarium at Mieu Island, Tam Island and a local fishing village. These ‘cruise boats’ are old fishing boats which have had benches and seats fitted for tourist groups.

Day 9 : Nha Trang – Hoi An

Fly to Danang and transfer to the UNESCO listed town of Hoi An enjoying some easy sightseeing in Danangat the Cham Museum, Marble Mountains, where there are marble workshops and China Beach en-route.

Day 10 : Hoi An

Enjoy a leisurely walking tour of Hoi An and visit one of the oldest homes, which is still occupied by the descendants of the merchants that built it over 200 years ago. The afternoon is at leisure to visit the renowned tailors, stroll through the local markets or relax in a riverside café.

Day 11 : My Son day tour

Travel to My Son, the most important Cham intellectual and religious centre, dating back to the 4th century and explore these UNESCO listed ruins. Return to Hoi An, where the afternoon is at your own leisure.

Day 12 : Hoi An – Hue

Drive over the Hai Van Pass, a winding but scenic road along the coast which provides a spectacular panoramic view of the central coastline.

Continue to Hue, the former historic capital of Vietnam during the Nguyen Dynasty and enjoy a cyclo tour to the Imperial Citadel - the centrepiece of the royal empire which was extensively damaged during the Vietnam War.

In the evening, take part in a cooking class focusing on select local dishes designed for the Royal Courts.

Day 13 : Hue – Hanoi

Take a boat trip on the Perfume River and visit the Thien Mu Pagoda, the Tu Duc and Khai Dinh Royal Tombs. Later, fly to Hanoi, a charming and richly historic city of lakes, parks and shaded boulevards, also known as the ‘Paris of the Orient’ and visit the Ethnology Museum. There wil be a Water
Puppets show this evening at your hotel.

Day 14 : Hanoi

Sightseeing today includes visits to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (closed Sep-Dec), Stilt House and One Pillar Pagoda.

Day 15 : Hanoi

Enjoy a walking tour of the picturesque Old Quarter and visit the Dong Xuan Market, the Temple of Literature and drive around Hoan Kiem Lake. In the evening, enjoy a performance of the famous Water Puppets.

Days 16-17 : Halong Bay Junk Cruise

Drive to Halong Bay, the ‘Jewel in the Crown’ of Vietnam. Relax and enjoy seafood meals onboard. Stay overnight on the traditionally designed junk boat, recently built and modelled on the traditional ‘junk’ which was both home and working vessel for fishermen in the Orient for centuries. Continue cruising between the nearby islands the following day.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Halong Bay is one of Vietnam’s most iconic attractions and features more than 3,000 limestone karsts rising from the Gulf of Tonkin dotted with caves, grottoes, reefs, forests and lakes.

Return to Hanoi in the afternoon, driving through the striking rural countryside of the Red River Delta.

Day 18 : Hanoi – UK

Fly to the UK, arriving home later the same day filled with many happy memories.

Day 17 : OPTIONAL SAPA EXTENSION: Hanoi - Sapa

Following our overnight cruise on Halong Bay, return to Hanoi in the afternoon, driving through the striking rural countryside of the Red River Delta. Later, board the overnight train to Sapa.

Days 18-20 : Sapa

Over the next three days we will explore the local area including the many markets, the different minority villages, the spectacular valleys and the fine examples of tribal architecture.

There will be 5-6 hours of walking each day. We spend two nights in Sapa and on our third night, we transfer to Lao Cai station and board the overnight train to Hanoi. (B,L)

Days 21-22 : Hanoi – UK

Arrive early in Hanoi and transfer to your hotel. Later, fly overnight to the UK, arriving home the following day filled with many happy memories. (B)
