Attica Peninsula
Attica is a peninsula jutting into the sparkling Aegean Sea. Attica is located in what is today southern Greece and a popular holiday destination. In addition to the capital Athens, Attica contains within its area the historical cities of Piraeus (port), Eleusis, Megara, Laurium, and Marathon, as well as the islands of Salamis, Aegina, Poros, Hydra, Spetses, Kythira, and Antikythera.
Mountains divide the peninsula into the plains of Pedia, Mesogeia, and Thriasia. The Saronic Gulf lies to the south and the island of Euboea lies off the north coast. Sun drenched beaches line much of the gulf coast from Poros to Epidaurus, Galataki to Kineta and from Megara to Eleusis and from Piraeus down to Anavyssos.
