Car hire will allow you to visit Delfi, Parga, and ancient Nicopolis. You could also take a day yacht to explore the beautiful islands & sheltered bays which lie off the eastern coast of Lefkas.
North of Paleros, the coastal road goes to Aktion then inland to Vonitsa, a pretty seaside and very green town at the entrance to the Amvrakikos gulf, built atop the foundations of ancient Anaktorion.
On the hill above, "Agios Petros" a ruined medieval castle near the chapel of Divine Wisdom (12th c.) stands mournfully sentinel over the remains of ancient temples and walls.
15 km. further west is Aktion, the site of the epic naval battle between Octavian and Marc Antony. Here lies the famous "Channel of Cleopatra", through which the fleet of the great Queen of Egypt was anchored, prior to its defeat at Aktion.
