DAY 1: ARRIVE IN THE ARCTIC

Fly from Oslo to Longyearbyen, stay overnight.

DAY 2: LONGYEARBYEN AND BARENTSBURG

There is time in the morning to visit the Svalbard Museum and the Svalbard Gallery before you depart. In Barentsburg the enjoyable folklore show affords an opportunity to enjoy a rare cultural insight into this remote Russian community.

DAY 3: MAGDALENEFJORD AND MOFFEN

Entering the North West Spitsbergen National Park we visit Magdalenefjorden and learn a little of its fascinating whaling history, before attempting to cross the 80th parallel to visit Moffen Island and its abundant walrus colony.

DAY 4: NY ÅLESUND

At the end of the fjord the towering nunataks of the “Three Crowns” pierce the landscapes of the spectacular Kings Glacier, presenting you with a stunning backdrop to your journey towards Ny Ålesund. You pay a visit to this former mining town, now renowned as the northernmost permanently inhabited Arctic Research Station on Earth, before continuing along the coast of Prins Karls Forland this afternoon, heading fi rst for Bjørnøya and later towards the Norwegian mainland. The voyage across the Barents Sea will take about two days, take the chance to relax in the comfortable surroundings of MS Fram.

DAY 5: BJØRNØYA (BEAR ISLAND)

Today’s journey takes you through a region steeped in the myths and legends of the past, where towering cliffs and sea stacks play host to countless numbers of seabirds.

DAY 6: HONNINGSVÅG

Honningsvåg is Norway’s northernmost town, lying at a latitude of 71° north, and it is from here that you reach mainland Europe’s most northerly point, the North Cape, a barren landscape that rises some 300 metres above the icy waters of the Barents Sea.

DAY 7: TROMSØ

The gateway to the Arctic, Tromsø is encircled by ice blue fjords and the dramatic peaks of the Lyngen Alps.

DAY 8: TROLLFJORD AND HENNINGSVÆR

Navigating the narrow entrance to the Trollfjord you enter a dramatic world where the cliff walls rise vertically from the dark waters below. Later this evening you arrive in Henningsvær in Lofoten.

DAY 9: ALSTAHAUG AND VEGA

Alstahaug is a community of some 7,000 people, spread out across no fewer than 917 islands. The UNESCO protected islands of Vega on the other hand encompass a staggering 6,000 islands, islets and skerries, where eider ducks, lighthouses and remote fishing villages share a dramatic landscape that has seen some form of human habitation for over 1,500 years.

DAY 10: BREKSTAD

Close to Brekstad you find Austrått Manor, one of the oldest manors in the country and the former home of some of Norway’s most influential noblemen. Dating from as early as the Viking period it can trace its origins back to the struggles between Viking and Christian settlers during the 10th century. Strategically positioned at the end of the Trondheimsfjord, the area is also home to an impressive German fortification that was built during the Second World War.

DAY 11: ÅLESUND AND GEIRANGER

Surrounded by water, Ålesund is a colourful coastal town renowned for its Art Nouveau architecture. From here you enter the famous Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s longest fjords.

DAY 12: OLDEN, NORDFJORD

Sailing into Nordfjord today you can gaze out towards the Jostedalsbreen glacier, before carrying on to enter the Utfjord and Innviksfjord en route to Olden. From here enjoy a rolling panorama of lovely valleys, stretching south and carving a way through mountain slopes that rise some 1,700 metres above the glacier’s edge.

DAY 13: BERGEN

Surrounded by seven mountains and founded in the 11th century, the picturesque city of Bergen is Norway’s cultural capital. A stroll through its charming streets gives you an opportunity to discover one of Norway’s most vibrant cities and we recommend a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site of the famous houses of “Bryggen.”
